"We want a house that doesn't need an AC, even in Chennai's 45° summers!" This was the brief that started it all, our journey into the world of alternate construction. To minimize the impact of the harsh summer sun, rammed earth was chosen as the primary outer wall material with exposed brick walls chosen for the inner walls. This combination of earth based materials coupled with tapered openings, oxide flooring, double height ceilings and brick trellises ensured that the house stayed delightfully cool all through the year with the clients even exclaiming that after living at their Earth Abode, they find it difficult to stay anywhere else, even hotels!
