QUIKBRIK HOUSE
In the beautiful winding lanes of Nadal, off the Kannur Bypass and up a climb of a charming rustic Kerala road, in the lap of nature is QuikBrik House, a sustainable house tailor-made for its picturesque location. A completely load-bearing house of abundantly available laterite stone for the foundation, compressed stabilized earth blocks (CSEB) made of locally sourced earth for walls, Hourdi block with ceiling and terracotta tiles for the roof that reflects the region's traditional architectural style while embracing modern environmentally conscious practices.
The laterite foundation, abundant in the area, not only ensures structural integrity but also provides natural thermal insulation, ideal for Kannur's warm climate. By utilizing CSEBs for the walls, we minimize the ecological impact, as these blocks are made from locally sourced earth and require low-energy production. The CSEBs' inherent thermal properties further enhance the house's energy efficiency by reducing the need for excessive cooling or heating. Topping it off, the terracotta tiles for the roof add a touch of elegance while offering durability and natural insulation, harmonizing the house with the surrounding environment. Together, these eco-friendly features create a sustainable dwelling that complements Kannur's natural beauty while minimizing its carbon footprint.
